Homemade Rice Krispie Treats

1.22.2011

My friends are avid supporters of my food blog. I love them. Not only do they give me shout outs on their Facebooks and Twitters, but they also actually attempt to cook stuff from my blog. Keyword: attempt. Just kidding, guys. As I always say, there's a cook in everyone. You just have to let it out. And these homemade Rice Krispie treats are a good way to start.

I always get asked "What's the easiest thing to make on your blog?". And even though I think that mostly all of my recipes are fairly easy, I usually suggest the brownie candy cups or baked penne. But THESE Rice Krispie treats are definitely, without a doubt, the MOST easiest things to make on my blog. They're on a whole new level of easy. Like, the absolute retard level of easy. No offense to retards or anything.

How I decided to randomly make these little treats...I'm not really sure. I'm the type of person who HAS to read something while I'm eating, and it usually ends up being the side of the cereal box. I especially enjoy when cereal boxes have all these cool games on the back(shout out to Cocoa Puffs). This time around, I was eating Wheaties. Yes, Wheaties. Not Rice Krispies, because I don't particularly like Rice Krispies cereal. I don't care if it can snap, crackle, and pop. It's actually kind of creepy to have cereal that "talks to you". But anyways, I was getting bored of reading about snowboarder Shaun White on the back of the Wheaties box, so I went for the next available cereal box.

And that's when I saw it.

"1 jar(7oz.)marshmallow creme can be substituted for marshmallows"

As if it wasn't awesome enough that I didn't have to use marshmallows (since finding halal marshmallows is annoying), but I could also substitute marshmallow creme....which I had on hand!

I decided I would make them first thing next morning. And I did. And they turned out awesome. The only thing that would make them more awesome is if I added mini chocolate chips, or M&M's....or anything chocolatey.

I'm never spending $1.00 on a Rice Krispy treat from the snack machine in my school ever again. And when you try these, you won't either.

Outstanding! From where do you get your halaal marshmallows?

I've never bought them before but I've heard that many Arabic grocery stores sell them.
